MWC 2016: From Super Phones And Virtual Reality, Highlights And Oddities

For the first time gabg’s over 100,000 visitors to MWC. The fair is booming. Meanwhile, the MWC is a place where many industries come together. In the end of the Smartphone era for the fair could be been ushered in 2016.

It was clear: the Mobile World Congress (MWC) has again put to the visitor numbers and hit the 100,000 mark for the first time. Nearly 101,000 trade visitors and journalists were in the trade

fair year 2016 on the site, announced the Organizer GSMA in Barcelona. About 6 percent were more than in last year, there were 93,000 visitors. “This is an important milestone for the Mobile World Congress,” said John Hoffmann, head of the industry association GSMA.

It was so pretty back full. The visitors came to Barcelona from 204 countries. 2200 exhibitors (+ 10%) showed their products and projects on 110,000 square metres of exhibition space (+ 10%) during the four days. “The MWC encompassed a diverse range of events for various industries and interests this year”, said Hoffmann. Network operators and equipment supplier as well as large and small Smartphonehersteller, startups, software companies or car manufacturers, were just a few of the industries to name a few.

2016, the end of the Smartphone era could have rung for the MWC. The major manufacturers are still using much Tam Tam view their new top models in Barcelona, but they no longer dominate the exhibition. Other issues back to the fore, it’s about the business. While behind the scenes at the next mobile wireless standard 5 G is screwed and the Internet of things takes shape, the subject of virtual reality is present everywhere at the consumer electronics this year.

12,500 of the MWC visitors were also on the startup exhibition 4YFN, which will take place parallel to the MWC on the old Fairgrounds now in the third year. Startups in the mobile area here along with investors, incubators and companies to the networks. For the first time, the GSMA has held also an E-sports event in Barcelona on the weekend before the fair. On the ESL Expo Barcelona, top teams came together the scene to the Barcelona Counter Strike tournament.

The Mobile World Congress 2017 will be held from 27 February to 2 March 2017. (vbr)
