Climate and Weather of Dead Sea, Israel

The climate of Dead Sea

According to bridgat.com, the Dead Sea forms the natural border between Israel, the West Bank and Jordan. The Dead Sea is the lowest lake in the world and due to the high concentration of minerals also the saltiest lake in the world. The salt content, at just over 33 percent, is so high that you float on it as a human. Due to the high mineral content, there are a number of spas around the Dead Sea, which specialize in curing various skin diseases. In recent years, the sea level of the lake has fallen sharply, mainly because the lands around the lake increasingly need more water from rivers that flow into the Dead Sea. There are no plant or animal species in the lake, but a number of bacteria and micro-organisms live there. The Dead Sea is located in a rocky area, with the mountains of Moab on the east and the mountains of Judea on the west. The lake also borders the Wadi Araba. The Dead Sea is one of the largest sources of Potassium. The Dead Sea has a warm desert climate, characterized by hot summers and cool winters and low rainfall throughout the year. The summers are warm and on average per year this region has almost 200 days of 30 degrees Celsius or more. The altitude record is 47 degrees Celsius. The winters are cool, but it never really gets cold, frost has never occurred here. This is partly due to the dampening effect of the Dead Sea on the climate in this region. The annual precipitation is negligible with an average of just over 40 mm. Longer periods of precipitation are therefore rare.
