Motorola’s device has excellent setting and affordable price
Until a year or two ago, buy a cheap smartphone with Android was betting on an experience well lower than the top of the line appliances. In this year of 2013, however, the intermediate devices began to offer experience well closer to those of sophisticated smartphones.
See testing the iPhone 5, Galaxy Note III, LG G2 and other smartphones
Moto G is the greatest example of this trend. The cell phone has about setting and affordable (from R $600, most basic version). The model tested by the iG was the Colors Edition, which takes its name for three coloured capinhas, beyond black, in your box. We’re going to test.
- Good sized Screen and high quality;
• Capinhas included in the box, and other interesting officers for sale;
• System and apps coming to Android “pure”, without much intervention;
• Good cost/benefit ratio.
- 4 g;
• Has no memory card slot;
• Camera underwhelming;
Moto G has a visual common good, but fancy. Good old rectangular shape with rounded corners is composed of all the rounded edges, improving the footprint. The rear is slightly domed.
Moto G remember the your big brother, Moto X, but is simpler. Your body is all in glossy black plastic, except for the glass screen and the dust cap back, which is dull. The front has a smoother frame, which helps navigation without borders.

On the right side are the power and volume buttons. Above, we have a connection of audio and a microphone, which is also found on the bottom, next to the microUSB connection.
The back account with camera and flash centered, sound output on the left and the Motorola logo, sunk below the flash.
What’s new in Colors is that the box brings more three capinhas back, beyond that already comes in the appliance. The dust cap back is delicate and the first few times it’s withdrawal makes me think will break, but that’s just me.
In the box we have yellow caps and flashy, red that leans slightly to the pink and white. The material is dull, but not rubbery, although it has good grip. Is an interesting finish, which does not scratch easily, but that dirty easily with hand fat.
As we have seen, the back cover is removable, but that doesn’t mean that the user can change the battery. You can only change the carrier chips (default yes), because there is no card slot and the battery is not removable.
This was an item in the Bike impressed, and showed G Motorola’s whim. The IPS 4.5 inch LCD screen has a good size and great quality. With HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and density of 326 ppi, it is impossible to see the pixels on the screen.
The colors are intense but balanced. The screen is less bright than a AMOLED display, but your brightness is strong, and overall the colors are balanced. For being IPS, your viewing angle is quite wide and even close to 180° it is possible to see the screen without color distortion.
The touch screen is smooth and very responsive. Writing in the standard Android keyboard is comfortable when it is horizontal. The glass contains protection against crashes and Corning Gorilla Glass risks 3. But, as always, and a film cover are highly recommended.
Hardware and processing
The heart beats a very decent set of processing, that stumbles only in fact the Bike G have only 1 GB of RAM. Moreover, he brings Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, 400 CPU quad core Cortex-A7 of 1.2 GHz and 305 Adreno GPU. It’s not a far superior, but it certainly surpasses competitors in the same price range.
Us benchmarks performed, the results were different: in the Antutu he did 17,284 points (similar to LG Nexus 4); the Geekbench 3 he scored 1,157 points; and in HTML5, chegtou the Vellamo 1,955 points (just below the Galaxy S4).

On games, he went through the Epic Citadel, where benchmark reached 57.2 fps on high performance and the 3DMark, where he scored in Ice Storm 5,433 (well below the S4 Galaxy mini), 4,405 in Ice Storm Unlimited and 2768 in Ice Storm Extreme (the same as the Galaxy Mega 6.3).
Also tested with real and demanding games like Shadowgun: Deadzone (which works with online multiplayer) and Dead Trigger 2. The performance was in line with the expected, no crashes and everything running well. For the other tasks of the unit, we have not had any stumble or lag, everything worked fast and fluid.
He heated up minimally in time for pictures, but in processing of games, remained well. Wireless connections he has what it takes for a full use, but doesn’t have the extras found in tops as NFC, DLNA and more protocols or dual band on WiFi.
Moto G is dual chip, being an entry WCDMA and GSM, and the other only GSM, working with microSIM. It also has USB Host, and the connection can be used with mice, keyboards and other.
Operating system and usability
Moto G hasn’t brings the most current version of Android, finding themselves on Jelly Bean 4.3. Still, it’s pretty new, and the company has already promised upgrade to 4.4 KitKat. I just don’t know exactly when it comes to Brazilian users.
After that Motorola was bought by Google, their cell phones started to come with fewer modifications of Android. The visual interface of Bike G is very close to the “pure” Android.
It’s a simple system, with only the features that Google implemented on Android. On the one hand it is good, because there’s more space to install the desired applications. But who ever prerefe receive a unit full of extra functions may be disappointed.
On lock screen you can put widgets, hours and other components. If you drag your finger to the left side, the user activates the camera without having to unlock the appliance. The notifications bar, if pulled with two fingers, shows shortcuts to the most commonly used settings, such as screen brightness, airplane mode, WiFi and others.
There is a special area settings to manage the two chips YES. You can disable one or the other, choose enable mobile data, connection priority for voice or data, customize each chip, choose ring tones, among others.
Now that Motorola is a company of Google, the company just applications that really complement the Android. This causes find only 33 apps in memory, which is great, since there is no way to increase the storage space.
Motorola’s finger only appears in four apps, like the BR Apps (small Brazilian apps store, so that the appliance between the law of right) and the Bike Care, which offers help and tips for improving the use.

The Motorola Assist analyzes your agenda and you can leave the silent phone, including answering calls with messages, when you are busy. You also sets up your sleep schedule, and the phone just rings if someone important, or you try to call more than once in a short time.
The Migration of your transfer data Motorola smart former for Moto G, as call history, SMS, videos, photos, music and contacts from the SIM chip. Worked without problems with a LG Nexus 4, simply download the free app at Play Store.
The result of the pictures were different but, in General, is not the best camera of Motorola. With 5 megapixel sensor, autofocus, LED flash, geotagueamento, touch focus and face detection, she is only average.
The images (up to 2592 x 1944 pixels) are not very well when magnified in your size, because there is a lack of accuracy in the photos. Indoor images, no matter how bright they are, end up suffering from this evil, and are looking like a painting.
For landscapes she does much better, and with good external lighting environments also brought better results. The digital zoom is not very recommended, as well as the flash. But, if well used, can lead to interesting photos.
The photos have balanced colors, well lit (HDR mode makes all the difference), but also lacks optical stabilization, which leads to many blurry or shaky shots. The camera solves the need of someone who posts photos on social networks, but not will please those who seek the best photos on smartphones.
The camera application interface is very simple, and not a lot of adjustments to be made, being the majority. The menu is based on gestures. A drag gesture of fingers to the left leads to the Gallery, to the opposite side activates a half wheel of adjustment.

The camera shoots in HD resolution (720 p), with a very acceptable quality when in good light, besides having two microphones with noise reduction, which bring stereo sound. The slow motion mode reduces the General resolution, but is extremely fun and with high potential for exploration. There is also a front-facing camera, 1.3 megapixel, who liked the photos, respecting its limitations.
Music and media
The external volume surprised for being too loud and even reasonable quality. The headphones that come with the box are pretty normal, white, plastic. Have microphone and button to answer call.
The headphones had satisfactory result in the test, with good stereo but treble too emphasized. There is an equalizer in the player device’s native, but he doesn’t always help. It’s not a copy, but comply with your duty. Moto G has FM radio.
The 4.5-inch screen is perfect not just to navigate the system, but also to watch videos. With the intense colors, good luster and HD, any movie or tv show will be fine on the screen. The external sound accompanies well, and helps to improve the experience.
Battery and storage
A 2070 mAh battery might be very little for a device like this, but since Motorola has optimized the spent on Bike G, she had very good length. In normal daily use (average brightness, WiFi, downloads, games, music, movies, and links) he reached 28 hours.
Using less, it passes quietly for 40 hours, and in more intense use, watching many videos or playing a lot, we have 8 hours of battery life.
Moto G is sold in 8 GB and 16 GB, and the smallest is indicated for those who do not intend to perform many application downloads and even download movies, just songs. The model tested here is 16 GB, more acceptable for use, since there is no memory card slot.
Of these 16 GB, are available to the user approximately 12.9 GB, which is not bad. You will need to choose what to take in the appliance, because the space can be done if you like HD videos and games. But spending a not very demanding user.
What’s in the box
The Bike box G is succinct, and has just enough for use. In addition to the device, we found four colorful capinhas (white, black, yellow and red), travel charger, USB/micro USB cable, headphones, white, with microphone and call attendant; and some books with quick guide and information.
In addition I tested here, the Dual Colors Edition, the G is available in other editions. The simplest, which comes only with the black back, 8 GB of memory and is Dual Chip, has values that begin at R $599.
The other issue is the Music that accompanies an external Bluetooth headset Sun Republic. This does not bring capinhas colored, but is Dual Chip and has 16 GB of internal memory. Can be found from R$790.
For those who want more protection for the device, but without losing the convenience of size, Motorola itself placed on the market different covers, with lid, rubber and other, that are fitted at the rear of the Bike G, replacing the existing plastic. Thus, the vibrant color and also the size of smart.
Who it’s for
Moto G came even to balance the market. He leaves behind even other intermediate models own Motorola, like the Razr D3 and the Razr i . Competitors must also worry about, because G settings are an intermediary more for top of the line, and the price is a bit above the basics.
The biggest flaw of the device is the absence of 4 g, but this feature is important only for some people. He also has no memory card slot, but on the other hand, has great screen, good size and decent processing.
With few apps in memory and no special features, the G is a blank screen, the user will be able to paint your taste, with applications and features that you prefer, without frills. It is ideal for those who don’t want a smart top and or the high costs involved in this choice, but you want a quality phone. Motorola hit the fly with the Bike G, and you can call it Nexus cheap.
