Our trip to Iceland, Washington and New York is truly a journey of contrasts. First we stop in Iceland where we get to experience desolate but fabulous nature. Here we discover nature’s masterpieces at Gullfoss and Thingvellir and we swim in the well-known Blue Lagoon. After a few well-being days in Iceland, we go to the US capital Washington DC where we get to experience the city’s many monuments and memorials. We end the journey in the vibrant city of New York with all its skyscrapers and landmarks known from countless movies and TV series. On the trip we will get to know most of the sights. The cultural offer is huge and you always find something to see or do in the world city that never sleeps, one of the world’s most popular destinations!
Day 1: Travel to Iceland
Flight to Reykjavik. After arrival we go directly to the well-known Blue Lagoon where we swim in the warm mineral-rich pools located in the middle of a lava field outside Reykjavik. Then we go to our hotel in Reykjavik check in. In the evening we gather for a nice welcome dinner. Overnight stay in Reykjavik. (Meals can be bought on the flight and dinner in Reykjavik)
Day 2: Reykjavik
After an invigorating breakfast, we go on a classic excursion where we see some of the well-known wonders of Icelandic nature. The first stop is at Thingvellir National Park where we take part in the area’s unique nature, interesting history and geology. The tour continues to the hot springs in Geysir, where the spring Strokkur sprays its jet of water high against the sky every six minutes. Then it’s time for the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall. We move on to the episcopal see in Skalholt. The excursion ends with a visit to a greenhouse. Overnight stay in Reykjavik. (Lunch)
Day 3: Reykjavik – Washington DC
The morning offers a three-hour city tour in and around Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital. In the afternoon transfer to the airport and flight to Washington DC Transfer by bus to our hotel in Washington DC and check-in. The rest of the evening free. Day 4: Washington DC
We are now in the heart of American power! In central Washington, all the famous buildings and monuments are well gathered. We begin our tour by visiting Arlington National Cemetery, where many of America’s most prominent citizens are buried. Not far from here is the Lincoln Memorial. Abraham Lincoln is certainly one of the most popular presidents. We then move a short distance and come to the Vietnam Monuments. On the 150-meter-long wall in black basalt are the names of the more than 58,000 soldiers who fell in the Vietnam War. Then we walk along the water, The Reflecting Pool, to the huge obelisk Washington Monument to the White House to look at the building where so many world-changing decisions have been made. We then continue past the Smithsonian Museums and to Capitol Hill and the United States Capitol. This is where the American Congress, the equivalent of our Riksdag, gathers. Behind Capitol Hill we also get a glimpse of the building where the Supreme Court, the US Supreme Court, is located, as well as the Library of Congress, the US Congress Library. We visit the National Air and Space Museum with world-famous aircraft such as The Spirit of St. Louis, Space Ship One, Apollo 11 and many others before returning to our hotel where we have dinner together. Day 5: Washington DC – Philadelphia – New York
In the morning we start the journey towards New York and along the way we first stop at the city of Wilmington. The Swedish colony New Sweden was founded here with the fort Fort Christina in 1638, only 18 years after the English colonizers emigrated to North America. For 17 years, the area was in Swedish ownership, and there are still memories of this the first Swedish colony on American soil! The next break will be in the city of Philadelphia where we visit the Liberty Bell Center with Liberty Bell, the bell of freedom. This watch is a very powerful symbol of American freedom. Another nearby building, Independence Hall, is at least as important in American history. We then continue to New York for overnight.
Day 6: New York
After breakfast we go on a 4-hour city tour by bus and get acquainted with many of the city’s famous sights. The afternoon is for your own adventures! Overnight in New York.
Day 7: New York
The whole day is free for your own dust trains and adventures. In New York, there is something for everyone. It’s great to just stroll around and let yourself be immersed in the atmosphere. Here are some of the world’s best museums for the art lover, such as the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art or the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But if you would rather immerse yourself in sports, shipping, Chinese history, space shuttles, design or Jewish culture? Don’t worry, there’s a museum for you too! Perhaps the best place to rest tired feet and be entertained by spectacular people is Manhattan’s lung, Central Park, with its 3 square kilometers of area. Shopping is also a popular pastime in “The Big Apple”. You can find everything from upscale branded goods on 5th Avenue or in the Macy’s department store, to cheap watches, bags and jewelry on Canal Street. If you get tired of Manhattan, you can take the subway to Brooklyn to visit the DUMBO area that stands for Down under the Manhattan bridge overpass. It is full of small shops and cozy cafes and the view of Manhattan is perfect! Overnight in New York.
Day 8: New YorkÂ
The day offers a little over an hour boat ride where we get to see the Statue of Liberty and get a new perspective on the city’s skyscrapers. The afternoon is free for your own walks. In the evening we gather for a nice farewell dinner. Overnight in New York. (Dinner)
Day 9: Return from New YorkÂ
The morning is free for your own walks. In the afternoon we say goodbye to New York and travel to the airport for the return trip. (Meals can be purchased on board the flight)
